This is a quote from one of my heroes…Red Skelton. Red was someone who could make you laugh with clean humor, using words that anyone could hear and he didn’t offend a race, sex or rarely did he offend anyone. Red just knew how to make people laugh. We need more of that today!

It has been a while since I posted. Running hasn’t been bad, but work got in the way for one week. Can’t let that happen.

In Olgebay this week, lovely place this time of year. Ran last night and again this morning. Good runs, lots of hills and I adore the deer standing within ten feet of me as I go by and they just smile.

Meetings today, students arrive, classes start tomorrow although I dont teach until Tuesday.

Hopefully another run later this afternoon or evening.

NOVEMBER is the start and its here.

Soreness…not bad but its there. The running has continued. Slow is a word I am getting more used to each day. The distance without stopping is getting longer each run. Haven’t yet made a morning run but I hope to. Cooler weather is good.

I will say its getting easier and I remain motivated to do this in February.

Myrtle Beach Half

Today is my wife’s birthday. We won’t say how old.

After going with my daughter to purchase the traditional birthday gifts and cards, flowers were ordered earlier, I was struggling with something to give that was different/unique. So, I decide to do something I have never done before. I registered for a half marathon.

Now the part of this that is most interesting is that right now I can’t run more than a couple of miles…and that is with some walking breaks. The race is not until February 2010 so I have given myself plenty of time to prepare.

All the websites say that if you do a marathon or half marathon just to lose weight you will probably fail at both. I guess that was part of my motivation for tying the race into a birthday gift and for registering last night. I have now promised my wife that I will do this and I have committed money to the event.

Well, we’re off. Lets see how it goes. Run first in prep for the half is now!
